Senior Backend Engineer

Job Summary

Owning the end-to-end design and implementation of backend services, the remote Senior Backend Engineer will focus on building and hardening integrations, ensuring reliability, and mentoring junior engineers while delivering high-quality software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build backend services using Python, including APIs, data models, and integrations
• Ensure domain reliability through metrics, logs, and defining SLOs, while contributing to infrastructure management
• Mentor mid-level engineers and raise the quality standards of the team

Required qualifications

• Strong backend experience with Python, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and Postgres or equivalent
• Solid understanding of API design, data modeling, and integration patterns
• Experience with production observability, SLOs, and infrastructure as code (Terraform/AWS preferred)
• Familiarity with health-regulated software and healthcare data interoperability
• Comfort using AI coding agents and the ability to review their outputs critically
