Senior Backend Software Engineer

Job Summary

To support a growing product and engineering team, the full-time Senior Backend Software Engineer will design, build, and scale backend services and APIs, driving improvements in system reliability and performance while collaborating cross-functionally in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and system integrations
• Partner with product, frontend, and data teams to design and deliver impactful features
• Champion best practices in testing, code quality, and CI/CD automation

Required qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally in SaaS, EdTech, or high-growth startups
• Strong proficiency in Node.js and familiarity with other modern stacks like TypeScript/Express or Python/FastAPI
• Experience building and scaling RESTful APIs, with knowledge of GraphQL as a bonus
• Proficient in cloud-native environments, preferably GCP, and comfortable with Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform
• Understanding of security practices, including OAuth2/OIDC and compliance frameworks like SOC2 and FERPA
