Senior Backend Software Engineer

Job Summary

As a full-time Senior Backend Software Engineer on the Distributed Systems team, the candidate will design, build, and maintain backend services for a distributed streaming platform, ensuring high availability and scalability while collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fully remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for the distributed streaming platform that supports Camunda 8's orchestration capabilities
• Lead medium to large engineering initiatives, translating business problems into technical requirements and driving project delivery
• Implement and evolve disaster recovery and resilience strategies, including online backup/restore APIs and multi-region capabilities

Required qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience as a software engineer, focusing on backend and/or distributed systems
• Proven experience leading medium to large engineering initiatives, with strong project planning and delivery skills
• Hands-on experience with highly concurrent, data-intensive software and a deep understanding of network and disk I/O
• Ability to work autonomously and navigate ambiguity, breaking down complex problems into actionable steps
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a remote-first environment
