Senior Backend Software Engineer

Job Summary

Leading a team of engineers in a remote capacity, the full-time Senior Backend Software Engineer will own quarterly goals, solve complex problems, and collaborate with stakeholders to enhance Affirm's APIs and solutions for Enterprise Merchants and Partners.

Key responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals while guiding engineers through ambiguity to address open-ended problems
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle, articulating technical constraints and advocating for risk-aware decisions
• Proactively identify and lead the resolution of project, process, technology, or business issues while fostering a culture of quality and ownership within the team

Required qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin
• Proven track record of developing highly available distributed systems with technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
• Experience in defining technical plans for significant features or system components with a focus on elegant and extensible design
• Demonstrated ability to make significant changes in a large code base and implement tools and practices for safe modifications
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
