Senior Cloud Engineer

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Engineer for a remote, full-time position, responsible for leading the design and implementation of AWS cloud-native microservices and Kafka/MSK-based event processing to support the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead the design and implementation of microservices for appointment scheduling and workflow capabilities on AWS
• Develop and maintain Kafka/MSK producers and consumers, guiding teams in event-processing practices
• Establish resiliency patterns and implement secure WebSocket-based streaming services for real-time user experiences

Required qualifications:

• 6-8 years of experience in cloud engineering, software engineering, or related roles within enterprise environments
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native architecture patterns
• Experience with Kafka or AWS MSK, including producer/consumer design and event schemas
• Proficiency in Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
