Senior Data Scientist

Job Summary

As a Senior Staff Data Scientist on the Consumer team, the remote position will serve as the technical authority on relevance metrics and evaluation, partnering with ML teams to enhance ranking, recommendation, and retrieval systems across Reddit's platform.

Key responsibilities

• Establish standards for measuring the quality of feeds, search results, and recommendations in a community-driven environment
• Develop metrics frameworks and conduct experiments to improve ranking and recommendation systems, addressing unique challenges of networked platforms
• Influence product strategy by synthesizing insights from analysis and experimentation into actionable recommendations for senior leadership

Required qualifications

• Ph.D. in Statistics, Computer Science, Information Retrieval, Economics, or a related quantitative field, or an M.S. with equivalent expertise
• 12+ years of industry experience for M.S. holders or 8+ years for Ph.D. holders in applied science, data science, or relevance/ranking-focused roles
• Deep expertise in metrics design and evaluation for ranking and recommendation systems
• Strong understanding of causal inference and experimentation methodology relevant to ranking systems
• Expert knowledge of SQL and proficiency in R and/or Python for statistical computing
