Senior Database Engineer
Job Summary
To support a major migration project, the full-time Senior Database Engineer will implement cross-region replication and operational tooling for a Tier-1 US payments platform, working remotely under the guidance of the Principal Database Architect.
Key responsibilities
- Implement and operate cross-region replication using Amazon DynamoDB Global Tables to ensure high availability and disaster recovery
- Build the observability layer for replication health, including metrics, consistency checks, and automation of runbooks
- Support data extraction from the monolith into microservices, including building CDC pipelines and validating data integrity
Required qualifications
- 8+ years of production database engineering experience on AWS, particularly in financial services workloads
- Deep experience with DynamoDB and familiarity with at least two other databases such as Aurora MySQL, Cassandra, or ElastiCache
- Practical experience with cross-region replication using DynamoDB Global Tables and handling related failure scenarios
- Strong skills in Terraform (or CDK) for building multi-region modules
- Proficiency in Linux, networking fundamentals, and IAM/KMS
