Senior Government Underwriter

Job Summary

Reviewing and evaluating various loan types, the full-time Senior Government Underwriter will assess credit worthiness, ensure compliance with lending guidelines, and manage risk in a remote work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive loan file reviews to ensure compliance with secondary market eligibility and assess borrower credit risk
• Evaluate borrower assets, debts, and income to determine repayment capacity and issue conditional approvals as needed
• Communicate effectively with loan originators and stakeholders regarding underwriting decisions and maintain current knowledge of industry regulations

Required qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred
• Minimum of 5 years' experience underwriting conventional, FHA, and VA mortgage loans
• Licenses such as Direct Endorsement (DE) and VA Credit Authority are required
• Strong understanding of investor, agency, and government guidelines
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively
