Senior Home Loan Underwriter

Job Summary

Working remotely with occasional training onsite, the full-time Senior Home Loan Underwriter will analyze and render lending decisions on home loans while mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze borrower documentation and determine eligibility for home loans, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines
• Apply sound judgment to assess complex loan requests and recommend approvals or denials in line with risk-tolerance standards
• Provide mentorship and training to loan officers and other underwriters, contributing to team projects and initiatives

Required qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree in business, finance, or related field preferred
• Minimum of five years of independent mortgage underwriting experience required; government underwriting experience preferred
• MBA Certified Residential Underwriter (CRU) and FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) designations preferred
• Proficient in loan origination software and AUS systems; knowledge of Encompass preferred
• Strong understanding of compliance requirements and established underwriting processes
