Job Summary

Managing day-to-day media relations, the full-time Senior Media Relations Manager will oversee operations that position the organization as an authoritative voice on psychology and mental health, handling complex media inquiries, cultivating journalist relationships, and leading media strategy execution remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Manage complex media inquiries and develop proactive outreach strategies to enhance media presence
• Serve as the primary liaison for APA Publishing, overseeing media strategies for journals and promoting research
• Direct media monitoring and reporting functions, analyzing data to inform communication strategies

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field; master's degree preferred
• 6-8 years of experience in communications or media relations, preferably in a nonprofit or scientific setting
• Proven track record of building relationships with journalists at major media outlets
• Strong grounding in science with the ability to interpret and communicate scientific literature effectively
• Experience managing staff or consultants and familiarity with AI tools in communications workflows
