Senior Principal Machine Learning Engineer

Job Summary

As the technical lead for Search Serving, the full-time Senior Principal Machine Learning Engineer will design and build high-quality search systems, set the long-term architecture for online retrieval and ML inference, and establish strong production practices, all while working remotely or in various office locations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement agentic search systems focusing on performance metrics like tail latency and throughput
• Set the technical roadmap for online retrieval and ML capabilities, ensuring rigorous evaluation and experimentation
• Lead initiatives to enhance team and platform maturity, mentoring senior engineers and aligning technical direction across teams

Required qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in designing and operating large-scale, low-latency search or retrieval systems
• Deep expertise in ML systems, including production inference and model optimization
• Strong background in distributed systems, focusing on performance, concurrency, and cost efficiency
• Practical experience in information retrieval and applied machine learning techniques
• Proven track record of setting technical direction and delivering results across multiple teams
