Senior Python Back End Engineer

Job Summary

Working remotely as an independent contractor, the Senior Python Back End Engineer will manage and evolve core systems for freight brokerage operations, lead technical initiatives across Python/Django services, and drive platform reliability while mentoring teammates.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve core systems related to quoting, booking, pricing, and scheduling workflows
• Lead technical initiatives, including design, phased rollout, and safe deprecation across multiple services
• Drive platform reliability work, focusing on database upgrades, performance tuning, and tooling for deployment safety

Required qualifications

• Proven experience as a senior back-end engineer with a track record of managing complex, multi-step projects
• Strong proficiency in Python and Django, or extensive experience in comparable programming environments
• Expertise in PostgreSQL, including schema design and performance optimization
• Experience with distributed systems and debugging across multiple services
• Demonstrated technical leadership through migrations, integrations, and mentoring without formal titles
