Senior Research Scientist

Job Summary

Focusing on advancing next generation estimates of primary production in rangeland ecosystems, the full-time Senior Research Scientist will lead efforts to evaluate and improve the Rangeland Analysis Platform (RAP) production model while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and communicating findings through publications and presentations in a remote work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose limitations and uncertainties in current RAP production estimates and evaluate algorithm assumptions
• Integrate field observations, flux tower data, and remote sensing products to enhance plant production models
• Develop applications of RAP production data for grazing management and engage with stakeholders to communicate findings

Required qualifications

• Associate's Degree with 11 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree with 9 years of relevant experience; Master's degree preferred
• PhD in Biology, Ecology, Rangeland Science, or related fields preferred
• Experience with satellite-based remote sensing products and plant production modeling
• Proven track record of conducting innovative, independent research and leading publications in quality journals
• Familiarity with programming languages such as Java, Javascript, or Python, and experience with cloud services like AWS, Azure, or GCP
