Senior Scientific Data Engineer

Job Summary

To support the Advanced Analysis Team, the full-time Senior Scientific Data Engineer will develop and enhance core scientific data systems, design automated workflows, and improve data management capabilities in a hybrid work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enhance JGI's core scientific data and compute capabilities as part of an engineering team
• Design, implement, and deploy production automated systems and workflows for genomic data management
• Identify and resolve technical issues while driving continuous improvements in system reliability and scalability

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
• Strong knowledge of software and data engineering fundamentals for data-intensive distributed systems
• Experience with database technologies and data storage systems, including relational databases and object storage
• Proficiency in Python and experience with additional programming languages
• Experience with data engineering technologies such as Airflow or Kafka
