Job Summary
Leading complex research projects in air quality modeling, the full-time Senior Scientist Air Quality will serve as a Principal Investigator while also taking on a Branch Lead role within the Environmental Modeling and Engineering Branch, focusing on developing scientific tools and data pipelines to translate research into actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Advance a strategic research portfolio in air quality, leading proposal development and serving as PI on funded projects
- Supervise staff through mentorship, performance reviews, and support for hiring and onboarding
- Engage in fundraising efforts and represent the organization externally as an air quality expert
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in atmospheric science, chemistry, engineering, or a related field, with a recognized record in air quality science
- Minimum 3+ years (Senior Scientist I) or 5+ years (Senior Scientist II) of post-doctoral experience with demonstrated leadership
- Experience leading funded research as PI or co-PI, including peer-reviewed publications
- Deep expertise in air quality modeling and experience with emissions inventory tools
- Proficiency in Python and/or R for data analysis and workflow automation
