Senior Scientist II Air Quality Modeling

Job Summary

Seeking a full-time Senior Scientist II Air Quality Modeling, this remote position will manage complex research projects at the intersection of air quality, environmental public health, and science-to-policy engagement while serving as a Principal Investigator and Branch Lead within the Environmental Modeling and Engineering Branch.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of a strategic research portfolio in air quality and oversee grant-funded projects as Principal Investigator
• Supervise staff, providing mentorship and support for their professional development while fostering a collaborative team environment
• Engage in fundraising efforts and represent the organization externally as an expert in air quality through publications and presentations

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in atmospheric science, chemistry, engineering, or a related field, with a recognized record in air quality science
• Senior Scientist I: Minimum 3+ years post-doctoral experience; Senior Scientist II: Minimum 5+ years with demonstrated strategic leadership
• Proven experience leading funded research and engaging with regulators and community stakeholders
• Deep expertise in air quality modeling and experience with emissions inventory tools and large environmental datasets
• Excellent communication skills and experience supervising staff across multiple career levels
