Senior Software Engineer

Job Summary

Supporting and modernizing mission-critical Veterans Affairs benefits processing systems, the full-time remote Senior Software Engineer will design, develop, and enhance middle-tier application components while collaborating with cross-functional teams to address software defects and modernization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, analyze, maintain, and enhance middle-tier application components for VA benefits processing
• Perform detailed code reviews and modifications across complex legacy systems, including those translated from C and FORTRAN into C++
• Collaborate with teams to identify and resolve software defects and support modernization efforts toward Java-based architectures

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree
• 10+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on C++ development
• Experience analyzing and modifying complex legacy systems
• Strong understanding of software design and application lifecycle management
• Experience working within UNIX/Linux environments, including shell scripting
