Senior Software Engineer

Job Summary

Owning the delivery of significant features for Confluent Cloud's AI capabilities, the full-time Staff Software Engineer will design and build backend services for real-time data processing, ensuring reliability and quality while collaborating across teams in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build backend services that run AI and model inference on real-time data using Go, Java, and Python
• Own features end-to-end, from drafting designs to aligning stakeholders and driving decisions to conclusion
• Participate in on-call duties and maintain the health of team processes and rituals

Required qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in designing, building, and operating distributed systems or cloud-native backend infrastructure
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes and distributed-systems patterns, including control loops and API servers
• Proficiency in at least one of Go, Java, or Python, with a willingness to work across all three languages
• Experience leading cross-team technical work and turning ambiguous requirements into actionable designs
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create design documentation that aligns diverse stakeholders
