Senior Staff Software Engineer

Job Summary

Driving the engineering vision for Payments, the full-time Senior Staff Software Engineer will define technical strategies, architect scalable systems, and lead cross-team initiatives to enhance payment experiences across global markets in a remote-first environment.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement a multi-quarter technical strategy for Payments, focusing on new products and significant growth in payment volume
• Architect and enhance the core Payments platform for high availability, low latency, and cost efficiency
• Lead the design and execution of large, cross-team initiatives, establishing clear milestones and measurable outcomes

Required qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems with expertise in backend programming (e.g., Go, Java, Python)
• Extensive knowledge of money-movement architecture, including PSPs, ISO 20022, and high-volume payment systems
• Proven ability to design highly available, high-performance systems while anticipating scaling challenges
• Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives and mentoring senior engineers in system design
• Strong communication skills for conveying complex technical tradeoffs to executive and cross-organizational stakeholders
