Senior UX Researcher

Job Summary

To support a short-term discovery project with a state government client, the Senior UX Researcher will conduct in-depth research on a complex permitting system, focusing on user navigation and experience, while working remotely on a contract basis for up to 40 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute discovery research across diverse user groups, including agency staff and external users
• Conduct field research and observational sessions to document user experiences and identify pain points
• Synthesize research findings into reports, personas, and actionable recommendations for agency leadership

Required qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in discovery research on complex, multi-stakeholder systems with relevant work samples or case studies
• Proficiency in field and observational research methods, beyond remote interviews
• Experience producing service blueprints, journey maps, or process flows
• Ability to translate raw research into strategic decisions for executives and technical teams
• Familiarity with government, regulatory, or permitting research is a plus
