Site Reliability Engineer

Job Summary

To enhance platform reliability and performance for millions of readers, the remote Site Reliability Engineer will apply software engineering principles to manage production services on Heroku and AWS, optimize application performance, and improve CI/CD pipelines in a full-time capacity.

Key responsibilities

• Share responsibility for the health and performance of production services, proactively identifying and resolving issues
• Define and track Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and error budgets, using data to inform reliability efforts
• Collaborate with the engineering team to optimize application performance and enhance the developer experience

Required qualifications

• 3-5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or related infrastructure management roles
• Deep experience managing applications on Heroku and AWS
• Proven expertise with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), specifically Terraform
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitHub Actions
• Strong coding skills, particularly in a Ruby on Rails environment, with the ability to refactor code for performance improvements
