Software Development Engineer

Job Summary

Building and scaling core features of Workday's distributed tracing platform, the full-time remote Software Development Engineer will develop high-quality code using ClickHouse and Grafana Tempo, maintain big-data pipelines, and optimize performance for high-throughput data ingestion.

Key responsibilities

• Write high-quality, well-tested code to enhance the distributed tracing platform focused on ingestion and query execution
• Build and support high-throughput data pipelines using technologies such as Kafka, Spark/Flink, and Iceberg-on-S3
• Implement robust error handling and monitoring to ensure high availability and reliability of tracing services

Required qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in software development engineering with a focus on distributed systems
• 3+ years of experience designing, building, and operating complex distributed system architectures
• Proficiency in at least two programming languages such as Java, Python, or Go
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred
• Strong understanding of distributed systems principles, including fault tolerance and high availability strategies
