Software Engineer

Job Summary

Seeking a remote Software Engineer to support the Wikidata Platform, this full-time position will design, build, and maintain backend systems and APIs, ensuring the performance and reliability of the Wikidata Query Service and related services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend systems and APIs for Wikidata's query infrastructure
• Improve reliability, observability, and automation of the Wikidata Query Service and data pipelines
• Monitor production systems, respond to operational incidents, and contribute to deployment automation and CI/CD workflows

Required qualifications

• 2+ years of experience as a backend or platform engineer working on distributed systems or data platforms
• Solid understanding of database and/or knowledge graph representation technologies
• Proficiency in Java, C++, or other systems languages with experience in building production-grade services
• Familiarity with modern observability tools and data processing technologies
• Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and contribute to a mission-driven engineering culture
