Software Engineering Manager

Job Summary

Leading a team of five engineers, the full-time Engineering Manager for Observability will define the strategy for instrumentation standards, optimize observability platforms, and explore AI-driven approaches to enhance system visibility and efficiency, all while working remotely in the United States.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and grow a team focused on the reliability and scalability of observability and cost engineering platforms
• Oversee Figma's core observability stack, ensuring high availability and data quality across metrics, logs, and traces
• Drive technical strategy for instrumentation standards and implement innovative approaches to anomaly detection and operational automation

Required qualifications

• 4+ years of experience leading infrastructure, observability, or platform engineering teams
• Hands-on experience with modern observability platforms such as Datadog and OpenTelemetry
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, instrumentation best practices, and incident response workflows
• Experience with cost transparency initiatives, including budgeting and forecasting in cloud environments
• Proven ability to set technical direction and drive cross-functional alignment in complex environments
