Job Summary
South Carolina Licensed Coder is a full-time position responsible for abstracting and coding medical record documentation across various departments, ensuring accurate and compliant assignment of codes for diagnoses and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Abstract and code medical records for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services
- Select and sequence appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS, HCPCS, and CPT-4 codes
- Ensure coding compliance and timely assignment of codes, including final DRG assignment
Required Qualifications, Training, and Education
- Associate's degree in health information technology or related field, or 5 years of coding experience
- Coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS) is required
- Minimum of 2-3 years of coding experience with an Associate's degree
- Familiarity with coding software
- Relevant coding credential from AAPC or AHIMA is required
