Job Summary
Leading advocacy efforts in the Southeast Region, the full-time salaried Associate Director of Government Relations will develop and implement government relations strategies focused on clean water policy and river restoration, while building relationships with state legislators and agency leadership, primarily in North Carolina.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and lead the implementation of government relations strategies to achieve conservation goals in the Southeast Region
- Establish and maintain relationships with legislative members, executive offices, and their staff to advance American Rivers' priorities
- Lead policy development and advocacy in North Carolina for the reform of the Clean Water Act implementation
Required qualifications:
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in government relations, public policy, or political advocacy
- Familiarity with state and federal rulemaking procedures and requirements
- Significant experience working with state legislatures and natural resource agencies
- Established relationships with Southeast Region policymakers and relevant stakeholder networks
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute bipartisan legislative strategies
