Staff Backend Engineer

Job Summary

Owning the architecture and reliability of backend systems, the full-time Staff Backend Engineer will design and deliver Java and Python REST APIs, manage AWS IoT services, and mentor engineers in a remote-friendly environment across the U.S. and Canada.

Key responsibilities

• Lead system design and set technical direction for backend architecture, ensuring reliability and scalability
• Own and deliver high-impact backend projects end-to-end, utilizing AI to enhance development efficiency
• Mentor team members and contribute to architecture discussions, fostering collaboration across cross-functional teams

Required qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in backend engineering, with expertise in Java (11+) and Spring Boot, and familiarity with Python
• Proven track record of designing and building scalable, RESTful JSON APIs
• Strong technical skills in Distributed Systems, AWS, MySQL, and monitoring tools like ELK and Graphite
• Experience with automated testing and a commitment to Continuous Deployment practices
• Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and maintain a customer-focused mindset
