Staff Backend Engineer

Job Summary

Seeking a full-time Staff Backend Engineer to enhance a multi-tenant travel commerce engine, working remotely to identify codebase improvements, drive feature ownership end-to-end, and architect scalable solutions while collaborating with senior engineers and business partners.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and execute improvements to the codebase for enhanced performance and safety
• Own features from backend systems to partner-facing surfaces, utilizing AI tooling as needed
• Collaborate with PMs and business partners to define and refine the product roadmap

Required qualifications

• Experience with distributed system development in Scala or a strong willingness to learn
• Ability to direct AI agents and automated workflows for complex systems
• Strong product thinking with a focus on customer experience
• Experience designing guardrails and feedback loops for AI-assisted development
• Proven ability to articulate problem-solving approaches and trade-offs
