Staff Backend Engineer

Job Summary

Designing and building core AI systems, the full-time Staff Backend Engineer will develop backend infrastructure for Mural's agent platform, focusing on orchestration, memory management, and service scalability in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Build backend systems for agent orchestration, durable execution, and tool integration
• Design scalable services and APIs for AI agents to manage workflows and user interactions
• Develop monitoring infrastructure to enhance agent behavior through metrics and feedback

Required qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on production systems and scalable services
• Experience in designing and operating distributed systems for complex workflows
• Familiarity with AI, LLM, or agentic systems and their relevant concepts
• Strong focus on production quality, including observability and reliability
• Experience with knowledge graphs or graph-based data modeling is a plus
