Staff Backend Engineer

Job Summary

Leading the technical strategy and hands-on execution, the remote Staff Backend Engineer will develop Airbnb's AI-powered Growth Engine for paid marketing channels, architecting systems for campaign management and optimization while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Set technical direction for the Growth Engine, making architecture decisions on systems for creative generation and audience management
• Write and review code while establishing engineering standards for quality and system health across the platform
• Mentor engineers and foster a collaborative team culture through design reviews and technical guidance

Required qualifications

• 9+ years of experience in a hands-on software engineering role
• Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Proven experience in defining product/technical strategy and driving alignment with cross-functional leaders
• Hands-on experience leading project teams and mentoring engineers
• Familiarity with paid advertising platforms like Meta or Google is a plus
