Staff Backend Engineer

Job Summary

Working remotely in a full-time capacity, the Staff Backend Engineer will shape the technical direction of product areas, manage complex backend systems using Python and related technologies, and mentor other engineers while delivering high-quality software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Own and develop technical solutions for assigned product areas, including scoping and building challenging components
• Advise on feasibility, cost, and risk for new projects, and contribute to architectural decisions
• Ensure quality standards through code reviews, testing strategies, and monitoring of deployed solutions

Required qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software development with a focus on backend systems
• Proficient in Python and familiar with Flask-style APIs, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, and Redis
• Experience deploying software on AWS and Kubernetes at production scale
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and guide them in advancing their skills
• Strong written communication skills for creating clear technical documentation and scopes
