Staff Engineer, FHIR Platform
Job Summary
Owning the architecture and performance of the FHIR server platform, the full-time Staff Engineer, FHIR Platform will manage infrastructure costs and latency while implementing security measures and ensuring FHIR standards compliance in a remote setting.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as the technical owner for the FHIR server platform, overseeing architecture, production health, and cost management
- Implement consent-based access controls and ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards
- Drive FHIR conformance by closing gaps in the resource library and supporting interoperability initiatives
Required qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in backend/platform engineering with a focus on high-throughput production API platforms
- Demonstrable fluency in FHIR, ideally from operating a FHIR server
- Production experience with MongoDB, including indexing, sharding, and cost optimization
- Strong knowledge of distributed systems and API security protocols such as OAuth 2.0
- Experience with coding agents and AI skills in engineering practices
