Staff Software Engineer

Job Summary

To ensure the reliability and scalability of database systems, the full-time remote Staff Software Engineer will design and build core infrastructure, serve as a subject matter expert on MySQL, and develop tooling for database operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build scalable database solutions for GitHub's infrastructure
• Develop and maintain internal tooling and documentation for database systems
• Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to disaster recovery planning

Required qualifications

• 9+ years of experience in Software Engineering or related technical discipline with proven experience in production software coding in languages such as C, C++, Java, or Python
• 3+ years of experience using monitoring tools to diagnose performance or availability issues
• Experience with database administration and MySQL
• Strong understanding of scalable systems and infrastructure
• Ability to work effectively in a remote and distributed team environment
