Staff Software Engineer

Job Summary

Driving the evolution of cloud-based development, the full-time remote Staff Software Engineer will design, develop, and ship high-quality technical solutions for GitHub's Codespaces product while providing technical leadership and mentorship to team members.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and ship scalable technical solutions across multiple GitHub services
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship, encouraging growth and ensuring adherence to quality standards
• Own the health and quality of systems built by the team, participating in on-call rotations and live incident management

Required qualifications

• 9+ years of experience in software engineering or a related technical discipline, with proficiency in languages such as Go, Ruby, Rust, Python, and JavaScript
• 2+ years of experience in technical leadership roles, such as tech lead or team lead
• Demonstrated experience with large-scale system architecture and design, particularly in cloud-based environments
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices
• Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education credentials
