Staff Software Engineer

Job Summary

Focused on platform modernization, the full-time Staff Software Engineer will lead backend architecture, design, and development of scalable systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams in a remote role based in the Chicago area.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive reusable, reliable, and scalable back-end architectures across the Cars Commerce platform
• Lead the design and development of high-performance, API-based backend services that meet service-level objectives
• Mentor other engineers and promote best practices in system design and engineering quality across the team

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
• 10+ years of experience in backend software development, focusing on large-scale systems and microservices architectures
• 3+ years of experience architecting cloud-native solutions on AWS
• Strong system design skills with experience in RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and gRPC
• Proven experience modernizing legacy systems and implementing observability in production environments
