Staff Software Engineer

Job Summary

Driving the technical direction for GitHub's internal developer platform, the full-time Staff Software Engineer will lead the design and delivery of large architectures, enhance operational automation, and mentor engineers while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive the team's technical direction across the developer platform, including paved paths and operational automation
• Lead the design and delivery of large architectures that cross team and organizational boundaries
• Navigate stakeholder conversations to align partners on technical plans and tradeoffs

Required qualifications

• 9+ years of experience in Software Engineering or related technical discipline with proven experience in production software coding in languages like Go, Ruby, or others
• 5+ years of experience with backend systems, infrastructure, or platform engineering
• Proven ability to drive technical change across teams and organizations
• Experience in navigating complex stakeholder conversations and aligning priorities
• Comfort with on-call rotations and incident response in a high-availability environment
