Staff Software Engineer

Job Summary

Seeking a full-time remote Staff Software Engineer, the successful candidate will architect and deliver high-performance systems for GitHub Actions, driving technical execution from design through production and leading initiatives across distributed teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and ship high-quality technical solutions that scale across multiple GitHub services
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship, supporting teams in producing extensible and maintainable code
• Champion operational excellence by improving system reliability and establishing best practices for monitoring and alerting

Required qualifications

• 9+ years of experience in Software Engineering or related technical discipline with proven experience in production software coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python
• Demonstrated experience with large-scale system architecture and design, particularly in cloud-based environments
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices
• Experience maintaining and delivering production software
• Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
