Staff Software Engineer

Job Summary

Operating remotely in a full-time capacity, the Staff Software Engineer will design, build, and manage the Sessions and Tasks APIs for GitHub's Copilot, ensuring the scalability and security of the platform while providing technical leadership across teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and operate the Sessions and Tasks APIs that support various Copilot agent surfaces
• Own the agent registry and remote steering model, implementing policies for session management
• Drive API design and coordinate schema changes across multiple teams to enhance platform capabilities

Required qualifications

• 9+ years of experience in Software Engineering or related technical discipline, with proficiency in languages such as Go, Java, or Python
• 5+ years of experience operating distributed backend systems at a senior level, including API design and production ownership
• 3+ years of experience designing and evolving public or partner-facing APIs
