Staff Software Engineer

Job Summary

Owning the architecture and implementation of agentic AI systems, the full-time Staff Software Engineer will define and build the agent platform at PayNearMe, ensuring safety and compliance while shipping production agents that enhance payment-related activities in a remote work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Own the architectural direction for agentic AI, establishing frameworks and integration patterns for diverse business customer needs
• Design, build, and ship production agents, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems and compliance with regulatory standards
• Produce and maintain architecture documentation, driving alignment across product, engineering, security, and compliance teams

Required qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on cross-team influence and long-term technical direction
• Demonstrated experience shipping agentic AI systems to production, with a focus on real user reliance
• Hands-on experience with modern agent frameworks and deep understanding of the full agent lifecycle
• Strong system design fundamentals and ability to integrate agents into existing transactional systems
• Comfortable working in a Ruby on Rails / MySQL environment with the ability to design effective integrations
