Staff Software Engineer
Job Summary
Leading the development of high-throughput, low-latency backend systems, the full-time Staff Software Engineer will design and implement auction mechanisms for Whatnot's advertising marketplace, collaborating remotely with cross-functional teams to enhance seller and buyer experiences.
Key responsibilities
- Architect and implement backend systems for ad auctions, including bidding, pacing, and ranking
- Design auction mechanisms that optimize seller value and marketplace efficiency
- Lead technical decisions and mentor engineers to elevate system design and operational standards
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- 8+ years of backend/distributed systems engineering experience
- Strong mastery of distributed systems fundamentals and experience with high-throughput services
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or Go
- Proven track record in leading architecture and scaling core systems, particularly in ad or ranking contexts
