Staff Software Engineer
Job Summary
To support the foundational big data infrastructure at Airbnb, the full-time remote Staff Software Engineer will design and build a next-generation big data compute platform, manage system reliability and performance, and contribute to open source software initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- Design and build the next generation big data compute platform for data ETL, analytics, and machine learning
- Operate and improve the reliability, performance, observability, and cost efficiency of the platform
- Write maintainable code, perform code reviews, and collaborate with other teams on system requirements and solutions
Required qualifications
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- 10+ years of experience with data infrastructure and big data technologies
- Proficiency in big data technologies such as Spark, Presto/Trino, and Kubernetes
- Strong programming skills in languages like Java and Scala
- Extensive experience in designing and maintaining scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems
