Staff Software Engineer, Backend

Job Summary

To enhance Affirm's Lakehouse Platform, the remote Staff Software Engineer, Backend will influence technical strategy, design and develop platform capabilities, and strengthen governance and access controls while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive the long-term technical roadmap for the Lakehouse Platform, focusing on scalability and performance
• Architect and implement secure and intuitive analytical data capabilities for various teams within Affirm
• Establish best practices for lakehouse operations, ensuring effective schema evolution and incident response

Required qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering or data platform engineering, including 2+ years in a technical leadership role
• Proven expertise with Apache Iceberg, Spark, and Snowflake or comparable analytical data warehouses
• Strong understanding of data platform architecture, governance, and trust principles
• Experience with analytics engineering frameworks such as dbt, including data modeling and CI/CD practices
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, or JVM-based languages, emphasizing clean and maintainable code
