Staff Software Engineer, Backend
Job Summary
Driving the technical roadmap for database solutions, the remote Staff Software Engineer, Backend will design and build scalable datastore platforms, collaborate across teams, and ensure operational excellence for Affirm's Online Storage team.
Key responsibilities
- Set technical strategy for the team, aligning it with critical business-impacting projects
- Design and build components of a scalable datastore platform, ensuring high performance and availability
- Foster a culture of quality and ownership by establishing code review standards and mentoring team members
Required qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in designing, developing, and launching backend systems using Python or Kotlin
- 5+ years of hands-on database expertise with Relational and/or Distributed SQL systems such as MySQL or PostgreSQL
- Extensive experience with AWS, Spark, and Kubernetes for building highly available distributed systems
- Proven ability to deliver major features and system components through effective technical planning
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
