Staff Systems Engineer
Job Summary
To ensure the reliability and scalability of GitHub's database infrastructure, the full-time Staff Systems Engineer will design and build core components of the database platform, serve as a subject matter expert on database internals, and collaborate with engineering teams to support their database needs in a remote work environment.
Key responsibilities
- Design and build core components of GitHub's database platform across self-managed and cloud-managed infrastructure
- Operate and improve replication topology and failover automation, including backup and restore processes
- Contribute to capacity planning for the database fleet and participate in an on-call rotation to respond to incidents
Required qualifications
- 9+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline with proven experience in production software coding
- Experience with programming languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python
- Strong expertise with MySQL internals and database administration
- Experience with Microsoft Azure or equivalent experience on another major cloud provider
- Experience contributing to large-scale database infrastructure migrations
