State Licensed Assistant General Counsel
Job Summary
To support Empower's defined benefit and multiemployer retirement businesses, the remote full-time State Licensed Assistant General Counsel will provide legal counsel on complex ERISA, tax, fiduciary, and regulatory matters while collaborating with various business units to enhance products and services.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as the principal legal advisor for Empower's defined benefit and multiemployer business, addressing complex legal issues
- Partner with business leaders to enhance existing products and operational capabilities while supporting growth initiatives
- Provide legal support for health and welfare plans and collaborate with the Legal Department on retirement products
Required qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law
- 12+ years of relevant legal experience, particularly with defined benefit and multiemployer plans
- Expertise in ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and related regulatory matters
- Experience advising on health and welfare plans and employee benefits laws
- Proven ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business-focused advice
