Job Summary
To support a growing healthcare practice, the full-time State Licensed Coding Specialist will review and analyze medical records to assign diagnoses, procedures, and charge codes while adhering to ethical coding standards in a remote environment.
Key responsibilities
- Review and analyze documentation in medical records for accurate coding and charging of inpatient and outpatient services
- Assign appropriate diagnoses and procedure codes based on physician documentation and coding guidelines
- Collaborate with clinical co-workers to ensure compliance with coding standards and methodologies
Required qualifications
- A.S. from an accredited Nursing or Health Information Management program or related healthcare discipline, or equivalent clinical experience
- At least 6 years of experience in ICD-10-CM/PCS and HCPCS/CPT coding in an acute care or professional service setting
- Certification as a Registered Nurse (RN), RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, CPC-H, or CIRCC, with one certification required within 6 months of employment
- Significantly advanced knowledge of ICD-10 CM/PCS and/or CPT/HCPCS coding systems, as well as facility department charging methodologies
- Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, and/or pharmacology
