State Licensed Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

Working remotely, the full-time State Licensed Inpatient Coder will code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from inpatient and outpatient medical records to ensure optimal reimbursement and quality reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes for inpatient and outpatient medical records
• Abstract key data elements required for billing and review records for clinical pertinence
• Communicate with medical staff to ensure accurate assignment of diagnoses and procedures

Required qualifications

• Associate or bachelor's degree
• Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
• Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT coding systems, and DRG systems
• Experience with hospital information systems and electronic medical record systems
• Understanding of medical-legal rules and regulations governing confidentiality and release of medical information
