Job Summary

As a full-time remote State Licensed Medical Director, the Disability Insurance Underwriting Governance role will lead the development and modernization of medical underwriting guidelines, ensuring evidence-based decision-making and risk assessment consistency across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of disability insurance medical underwriting guidelines
• Evaluate medical literature to assess morbidity and functional outcomes related to disability risk
• Deliver targeted training for underwriters to enhance their capability in interpreting medical data

Required qualifications

• MD or DO with an active medical license
• Board certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine)
• Experience in insurance medicine, disability underwriting, or disability claims
• Strong understanding of how medical conditions affect functional capacity and disability duration
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders
