Surgery/Anesthesia Medical Coder

Job Summary

To support accurate coding practices, the full-time Surgery/Anesthesia Medical Coder will assign principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures based on thorough documentation review, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and federal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Assign diagnoses and procedures by reviewing medical records and applying knowledge of medical terminology and coding guidelines
• Ensure accurate coding and sequencing for reimbursement under the Prospective Payment system, while maintaining compliance with CMS and JCAHO standards
• Abstract medical and demographic information from records and correct any discrepancies prior to submission to billing

Required qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Medical Coding experience
• Experience with Professional Fee Coding and EHR systems
• Accepted certifications from AHIMA or AAPC, such as RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, or CPC
