Technical Coder

Job Summary

To support the inpatient coding team, the full-time Technical Coder will assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-CM-PCS procedure codes for all UPMC inpatient facilities while working remotely during daylight business hours, Monday through Friday.

Key responsibilities:

• Code all diagnoses and procedures by assigning and verifying the proper ICD-10-CM and PCS codes based on thorough documentation review
• Ensure accurate sequencing of diagnoses and procedures for appropriate reimbursement under the Prospective Payment System
• Review coding for accuracy and completeness prior to submission, adhering to official coding guidelines and departmental policies

Required qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED equivalent
• Completion of an AHIMA or AACP-certified Coding program or equivalent with relevant curriculum
• Familiarity with PCS codes is preferred
• Six months of hospital coding experience preferred
